Student Engagement Conference – Greenwood 50

On Monday, November 1, 2010 I had the privilege of delivering the opening keynote presentation for Greenwood SD 50‘s first Student Engagement Conference. I talked about engagement as possibly being an idol. I talked about the notion that we often seek engagement without really defining what it is, let alone quantifying some measure of determining whether kids reach it.
I then talked about engagement as a portion of several factors:
- Engagement as a function of motivation
- Engagement as a function of cognitive effort
- Engagement as a function of presentation design
- Engagement as a function of relationship
I think the real star of the presentation was the interactive possibilities afforded by my use of polleverywhere.com. What a wonderful tool!
The Greenwood 50 group was lively, fun, and laughed a lot. I hope they enjoyed the presentation as much as I enjoyed giving it!

Chris, just stumbled on your site this week via Garr’s new book. Looks like some of our work intersects. Would you be interested in connecting via phone? Look forward to it.
